It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way—
~ Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two cities

For a moment or two anyway, it's the best of times.

[By the way, the "controversy" was much more in the eye of the reporter than it was real.]

...was happy to hear this news. May Canada continue to lead the way in this hemisphere in championing human rights.

Not only that, but the very next day Spain joined Belgium the Netherlands and Canada!

But I have to say that, as good a thing as this new law is, Canada isn't likely to be seen by the rest of the hemisphere as a champion of human rights. I'm thinking of our country's wretched, immoral and illegal recent actions in Haiti (amongst other things). Check out this article by Anthony Fenton.
